The Kaugel Hydro Power Project was established in the late 1970s by SMEC before being taken over by ELCOPNG, now known as PNG Power Ltd, to carry out feasibility studies and design of hydro plant. However, over the last 15 years, the project is yet to be completed.
Local company Brismark engineering spearheading the Kaugel Hydro Power project between the borders of Southern and Western Highlands provinces has taken the lead to support the government’s vision of electrifying 70 percent of power in the country.

Porgera Landowners in Lae Morobe Province met with their investors to witness the launch and signing of the land owner companies and also for the first time for the people of Porgera to see firsthand the Kenworth Trucks that now belong to the land owners.
Ari Group Holdings Limited has purchased the Kensworth trucks from Boroko Motors saw the vehicles delivered to the land owners in Lae. From the total of 60 Kensworth trucks, 4 of those where on display for the land owners to see.

As part of the business ventures the New Porgera Land owners will try tap into creating electricity in Porgera using water. According to the Legal Council Rep, Yalo Kapili, Producing Hydro-electricity is something the land owners are looking to invest on.
